The following up the excellent Palms, post-hardcore legends have followed up their stellar latter years output with Horizons / East. The band have matured wonderfully to the extent that now very few bands that exist the niche that Thrice now occupy.
Evolved from the post-hardcore emo landscape, they now represent something much broader including elements of post-rock, grunge, electronica and alternative. Dustin Kensrue’s mastery over his vocal range now enables not only the hardcore rasps but now includes echoes of Mark Laneghan’s whiskey soaked voice as well as the clean soaring vocals seen on choruses such as the excellent Scavengers. The band provide a lush and experimental canvas for the Kensrue from the louche swing of Northern lights, to delicate grunge of Still life. The mood of the album undulates between the uplifting, introspective and brooding and thus satisfies whatever the mood. Another excellent offering from Thrice, which continues to reward on repeated listens and ensures Thrice remain in a class of their own.
